About Athena Care
Our History
We have provided home care across England since 2001. Opening in Leicester, Athena Care now delivers care across Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, West London and Hampshire through a network of local care teams.
When you choose a live-in care company, you need trust and confidence. Trust that they will engage with you to care for you or your loved one in the way you need. And, confidence that that they will be passionate about getting things right. As one of the largest and established providers of live-in home care, we are consistently striving to achieve both.
At Athena Care, we recognise that care services must be compassionate, person-centred, and efficient. That’s why, in 2018, Athena Care joined the City and County Healthcare Group. This allows us to share expertise across an expansive range of care services. Together we believe that, given choice, home is where most people prefer to be cared for.

Choosing Care
Exploring live-in and home care options is often confusing, especially when you don’t have all the information or are unsure of exactly what’s available. Live-in care offers support in the comfort of your own home with a trained care assistant available when you need them.
Live-in care enables you to feel in control of your life – keeping to daily routines, maintaining relationships with friends and family and pursuing hobbies. It also provides peace of mind to your relatives that there’s always someone there to put you first.
Weighing up care options requires careful consideration, but we’re here to make the process as simple and stress free as possible. We’ll always go at your pace, responding quickly to your enquiry and taking the time to understand every aspect of your needs.
Recommending a care package that’s tailored to you, we’ll match you to a care assistant that you and your family trust. What’s more, your care assistant will provide interest, stimulation and emotional – as well as practical – support.
Encompassing everything from helping with chores or preparing nutritious meals to support with staying active, mobile and in touch with friends and family, your care companion is able to perform a diverse range of tasks. In addition, they’ll be instrumental in providing mental stimulation and companionship.

Our Care Team
We carefully select and vet our care assistants, for confidence in their ability to provide reliable, high-quality care. This includes passing DBS Enhanced Disclosure checks on the Adult (PoVA) and Child Protection (PoCA) registers. We also source suitable references and other employment checks, such as Asylum and Immigration.
You can be confident your care assistant has completed the ‘Care Certificate’ induction training. This verifies them as competent through observation and the shadowing passport. Our care assistants also hold appropriate qualifications and experience when working with specialist conditions.
All social care workers are either NVQ Health and Social Care Level 2/3 qualified or are working towards the awards. We also hold regular clinical skills training days delivered by our Registered General Nurse (RGN). These include tasks such as nebulisers, eye drops and PEG feeding, so our workers can assist with these tasks as required.
You can expect to receive the following service from your care assistant:
- Treat you with dignity and respect at all times
- Treat you as an equal, without discrimination
- Spend time listening and talking to you
- Maintain your privacy at all times
- Not make assumptions about your likes and dislikes
- Respect your past skills and experiences
- Assist you to ease any pain that you experience
- Discuss your food and drink likes and dislikes
